Lana Del Rey Explores Domesticity On New Song “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter”

Lana Del Rey caught many of her followers off guard in 2024 when she tied the knot with Jeremy Dufrene, a swamp tour guide from Louisiana. As it happens, Dufrene possesses a variety of skills, notably earning a songwriting credit on Lana’s latest single, “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter,” a fresh track from her upcoming studio effort, Stove. Despite rumors suggesting Lana is venturing into country music, “White Feather” serves as a moody, atmospheric, and jazz-infused contemplation on home life, womanhood, and gender expectations—themes that Del Rey has frequently examined throughout her discography.

The writing credits for this track extend beyond just Del Rey and her spouse. Her brother-in-law Jason Pickens is involved, as is her sister, Chuck Grant. Furthermore, the track honors renowned composer David Raskin and legendary songwriter Johnny Mercer, owing to the fact that the instrumental samples Ella Fitzgerald’s 1964 rendition of “Laura,” the iconic theme from the 1944 film noir. Raskin composed the melody, while Mercer penned the words. Incidentally, Laura served as the inspiration for the name of the central figure in David Lynch’s cult television hit Twin Peaks, a filmmaker who has been a significant creative inspiration for Lana.

Production duties for “White Feather Hawk Tail Deer Hunter” were shared by Lana, Drew Erickson, and Jack Antonoff, with the track beginning with a semi-rapped vocal from Del Rey detailing the rugged man who has grounded her. (Antonoff and Erickson are also credited as co-writers.)
